Keep the summer fun flowing with activities at the library this August!
The Calhoun-Gordon County Public Library is located at N. Park Ave., and is open 10 a.m. to 6 pm., Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturdays. To preregister for any activities or for more information, call 706-624-1456.
The library will be closed on Saturday, Aug. 30, in honor of Labor Day.
Weekly Activities
On Mondays, adults can get a morning move on with Workout with Nancy, an exercise class led by Nancy Guzman. Class starts at 10 a.m.
Chapter Champions takes place every Monday excluding Monday, Aug. 4, and is open for children 3rd-5th grades. The club includes read-alouds, book chats, and sparking imagination.
NoniÐÔÊӽ紫ý Nook takes place every Tuesday, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Noni picks a theme each week and will read stories, sing songs, and provide crafts for kids, ages birth through 5th grade.
On Wednesdays, Nancy Guzman will lead yet another exercise class — stretchband workout. Join her for a morning workout with bands starting at 10 a.m.
Those (18+) interested in board and card games can visit the library every Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. to spend some time with other game enthusiasts.
Also at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesdays, there will be an adult-only English Conversations session, taught by ESOL instructor Zach, for those hoping to strengthen their English speech.
Every Thursday at 10:30 a.m. there will be a Baby Lapsit, where new parents are welcome to come learn about communicating and reading with their babies ages birth to 2.
Teens can join the library for Dungeons and Dragons each Thursday at 4 p.m. for two hours of rolling dice and dicey accents.
On Fridays, veterans (age eighteen and up) will have a chance to get together at the libraryÐÔÊӽ紫ý Veterans Coffee Hour starting at 10:30 a.m.
All-Age/Family Events
On Friday, Aug. 1 at 3 p.m., there will be a Learn the Library Scavenger Hunt for all ages to use the resources in the library while solving a mystery.
Also on Friday, Aug. 1, a session of Paw Pals is taking place at 4 p.m., inviting children of all ages to read with a therapy dog.
Paper Pets and Paw Angels gives attendees of all ages the chance to adopt a paper dog while meeting a real adoptable dog from Paw Angels on Wednesday, Aug. 13, at 4 p.m.
There will be a Visit from Firefighters on Thursday, Aug. 14, at 4 p.m.
A Sensory-Friendly Movie will be shown at the library on Saturday, Aug. 16, at 1:45 p.m. for all ages.
A Lunch and Learn about Genealogy with Cynthia will be hosted on Tuesday, Aug. 26, at 11:30 p.m. for all ages to learn about how to use the library to trace family histories.
Also on Tuesday, Aug. 26, a Grief Support session will be held at 4:30 p.m. for all ages.
ChildrenÐÔÊӽ紫ý Events
WhatÐÔÊӽ紫ý that Pokémon? Pokémon Club will be hosted at the library Monday, Aug. 4, starting at 4 p.m.
A childrenÐÔÊӽ紫ý Unofficial Pokémon Tournament will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 6, at 3 p.m.
Children can join Miss Katya for a story and an experiment during STEAM Storytime on Thursday, Aug. 7, at 4 p.m.
There will be a childrenÐÔÊӽ紫ý edition of Crafting with Roberta on Thursday, Aug. 21 at 4p.m., for fun with creating cardboard portraits.
Teen & Tween Events
Clay Friday will be hosted on Friday, Aug. 8, at 4:30 p.m. Teens and tweens will have the opportunity to use air-dry clay to make unique art.
Get ready for an epic NERF battle at the libraryÐÔÊӽ紫ý Tween NERF Wars, taking place on Saturday, Aug. 9, at 1:45 p.m. Teen NERF Wars will take place later in the month, on Thursday, Aug. 21, at 6:15 p.m.
There will be two Movie Mondays this month for teens and tweens to attend, held on Mondays Aug. 11 and 25 from 4:30-6 p.m.
Teens and tweens can attend a ÐÔÊӽ紫ýwork Help session on Tuesdays Aug. 12 and 26 at 4:30 p.m. for any help they need with their homework for the new school year.
A teen edition of Crafting with Roberta will be held on Friday, Aug. 15, at 4 p.m. with 3D letter decor on the agenda.
The Family Resource Center is hosting a Teen Talk for teens and tweens, covering social and emotional life skills. This mini-session will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 20, at 4:30 p.m.
There will be two Graduated STEAM sessions for teens and tweens on Fridays, Aug. 22 and Aug. 29, at 4 p.m., designed for anyone grades 6-12 that is interested in science, technology, engineering, art, or mathematics.
A teens and tweens Unofficial Pokémon Tournament will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 27, at 4:30 p.m.
There will be a Painting with Roberta class on Thursday, Aug. 28 at 4 p.m. for any teens and tweens ready to get artsy!
Adult Programs
Get in tune with your balance and get your body stretched out with a Stretch and Balance Workout with Nancy, on Fridays, Aug. 1, Aug. 15, and Aug. 29, at 10:30 a.m.
At 10 a.m. on Tuesdays, Aug. 5 and Aug. 19, is the libraryÐÔÊӽ紫ý adult Knit and Crochet Club.
Roberta Charbonneau will host two adult Crafting with Roberta classes on Tuesday, Aug. 5 and Wednesday, Aug. 20, both at 1 p.m.
A Wills and Estates session will be held for any adults ages 19 and older on Wednesday, Aug. 6, at 4:30 p.m. A local expert will be present to help attendees learn how to prepare a will and to discuss estate planning.
On two Fridays this month, Aug. 8 and Aug. 22, adults can get moving and participate in a Zumba class, which runs from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
The library will offer its English Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) course for all stages of learning on Saturdays, Aug. 9 and Aug. 23 at 10 a.m.
Paint with Whitney will hold an adults-only class on Tuesday, Aug. 19, at 10:30 a.m. for those feeling artsy.
On Wednesday, Aug. 21 at 11 a.m., an expert will be present at the library for Snap-Ed, a health class focusing on affordable and accessible nutrition.
Adults can join in on Art with Emily, an hour-long art class, on Wednesdays, Aug. 13 and Aug. 27, at 3 p.m.
Book Clubs
This monthÐÔÊӽ紫ý Staff Picks a Book Club will be held on Friday, Aug. 22 at 4 p.m. This monthÐÔÊӽ紫ý book club pick is “We’ll Prescribe You a Cat†by Syou Ishida.
The Shelf Indulgence Book Club of the month will be held on Friday, Aug. 29, at 11 a.m. The topic of this month will be New Authors.
