Everett Springs Baptist singing

More than 140 people pack Everett Springs Baptist Church for a Red Book “singing†on June 29.

The year was 1947 and a new church building, Everett Springs Baptist, was dedicated in Armuchee. This structure was made of rock. That ensured that this one, unlike the original wood frame building, built in the 1880s, would not burn down.

On the evening of Sunday, June 29, that rock building was rocking again, but this time with old-time gospel music. The songs were from the Red Book, also known as the Church Hymnal, a 1951 copyright that was and is a standard for this genre.
