CalhounÐÔÊӽ紫ý City Council approved the annual adoption of its zoning map this week, and also okayed road closures for the summer Farmers Market.
The map, as prepared by the Geographic Information System staff, can be viewed at the Depot, 109 S. King St., at City Hall, 226 S. Wall St., or online at online.
Council members also were presented this week with third quarter financial statements covering July 1, 2024 to March 31.
“I’m very pleased where we are three quarters through the budget year,†City Administrator Paul Worley said, adding that revenues are trending above projections.
Other business
Kelly Fuquea was approved to fill Monica PiersonÐÔÊӽ紫ý seat on the Zoning Advisory Board for a three-year term expiring May 31, 2028.
A special event permit from the Downtown Development Authority was also approved to expand the annual Farmers Market.
The request includes the partial closure of Piedmont Street (adjacent to City Park) to provide designated handicapped parking, as well as the closure of the short section of Trammel Street (between Piedmont and Wall streets) to “improve pedestrian safety.†These closures would take place each Tuesday and Saturday between June 3 and Sept. 12, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
A meeting schedule change was also approved, moving the councilÐÔÊӽ紫ý first July meeting from the 14th to the 7th so the Mayor and council members can attend the annual Municipal Electric Authority of Georgia meeting.
Finally, a manager change request for Walgreens, 910 S. Wall St., was approved from Robert Smith to Lacee Southern.
The next regular meeting of the City Council is scheduled for Monday, June 9, at the Depot, 109 S. King St. All regular meetings are open to the public.
