Present: David Boyle, Mary Beth Dykes, Joan Fowler, Mary McConnell (by proxy), Davene Nichols, Mark Robles. Proxies were to David Boyle. Staff Stacey Suttle had another meeting to attend.
David Boyle presided. The minutes of the Marsh House Board of Trustees on April 21 were approved unanimously on a motion by Mary Beth (1) and Joan (2).
TreasurerÐÔÊӽ紫ý report: April — Income $230.00; Expenses: $1,153.74, Balance in Checking: $29,752.03
♦ Update on Museum of LaFayette Project. Graduate Intern is developing written policies based on Marsh House models.
♦ MotherÐÔÊӽ紫ý Day Tea: Attendance 18, Most food donated. Earnings: $265. Great feedback.
♦ Gift Shop: $60
♦ Clayton Bell Scholarship Reception,. Letters have gone out to high schools for applications for 2025-26. Only one received: Molly Ellis of Gordon Lee. Orientation was Saturday, May 17, with Gwen Gregory and Dr. Boyle.
♦ The farm bell has been installed east of the kitchen steps. It was agreed to paint the post white.
Repair of melodeon and reed organ. Estimates were obtained from Barger and Nix in Ooltewah. $6,000 for restoring the organ, $3,000 for the melodeon. A motion by Mary Beth (1) and Joan (2) to allocate $3,000 for restoring the melodeon passed unanimously.
♦ Administration/House management: Additional memberships for Friends of the Marsh House continue to arrive.
♦ Interpretation/Events — We have one new docent in training. Getting ConnieÐÔÊӽ紫ý tour script in writing (Romance, Ghost). Stella Babb is transcribing MotherÐÔÊӽ紫ý Day Tour script.
♦ Will need a new chairperson next year for Building and Grounds — George Rogers is moving away.
♦ Building and Grounds: Plaster and wallpaper repairs continue. County reimbursement is going well. Replacements for dead hedge bushes are being ordered.
♦ Events: HoneyBee Festival, May 31. We will be open 10-5. The parking lot will be closed off with parking by the public at $5 per car. We will need two helpers through the morning to collect fees and direct parking to utilize the space. A schedule will be sent out for docents and greeters soon. We will have our last yard sale. Everything must go!
