Battlefield Elementary School student Natalie Talley has been selected as a 2025 Carson Scholar. This honor is awarded to students who exemplify academic excellence, leadership, and a strong commitment to community service.
Three years ago, Battlefield Elementary School (BES) was chosen to receive a Ben Carson Reading Room, a space designed to inspire a lifelong love of reading and learning. Each year, schools with Carson Reading Rooms are invited to nominate one outstanding student for a $1,000 Carson Scholarship. This year, Talley was selected as the BES nominee and was chosen to receive this national award.
Talley is the founder of “NatÐÔÊӽ紫ý Blossoms of Hope and Bakery,†a grassroots ministry dedicated to supporting individuals experiencing homelessness. Through this initiative Talley bakes and sells homemade treats like cupcakes and brownies, and she grows and sells flowers. All proceeds and donations go directly toward her mission.
Talley raised more than $2,000, and she created and personally delivered “blessing bags†and hot meals to people in need throughout the community. These bags include items such as stuffed animals, gloves, blankets, wipes, and lip balm.
In recognition of her selfless efforts, Talley has been featured on Channel 9 News’ “Pay It Forward,†and she is scheduled to appear on the 700 Club this summer to share her story and inspire others.
Talley was recently honored at a formal luncheon hosted by Dr. and Mrs. Ben Carson, celebrating her selection as a Carson Scholar. Talley remains eligible to reapply for this scholarship in future years as she continues her academic journey.
Superintendent Chance Nix said, “While we are immensely proud of NatalieÐÔÊӽ紫ý achievement, what truly sets her apart is her compassion, initiative, and unwavering dedication to helping others. She embodies the values of empathy, service, and leadership that we strive to cultivate at Battlefield Elementary and in all of our schools.â€
