Playing their second straight road game in just two days, Kirby DeBoard and Savannah Blackwell tried to put the Sand Rock Lady Wildcats on their shoulders and carry them to their first Northeast Regional berth in three years.
DeBoard delivered 17 points, five rebounds and four steals, while Blackwell added 11 points, 15 boards, an assist and steals, but Sand Rock's basketball season came to an end at Fyffe in a 57-41 setback in Class 2A Sub-Regional action on Monday.
Haylie Pruitt had seven points, five rebounds, an assist and a steal for Sand Rock (21-10). Paige Norris finished with eight rebounds, two steals and an assist.
With the win, ninth-ranked Fyffe (21-7) advances to the Northeast Regional at Jacksonville State University's Pete Mathews Coliseum. The Lady Red Devils take on Lanett on Thursday at 3 p.m.
In other Class 2A Girls Sub-Regional action on Monday, eighth-ranked Collinsville lost a heartbreaker at home against No. 7 Section, 57-54.
Collinsville fell despite connecting on 10 3-pointers in the game. Brittany Rivera led the Lady Panthers with 19 points, including a pair of treys. Aryelle Jones added 10 points, including two 3-pointers. Kayla Beene contributed nine points, all from 3-pointers. Kendreia Moore managed eight points and Caroline Brannon finished with six points on two treys.
Nip McAllister topped Section's scorers with 20 points. Tirsah Morris and Tessa Brown both had 12 points. Haley Smart and Kat Hawkins finished with six points apiece.
Collinsville led 13-11 at the end of the first quarter, but Section surged ahead at halftime, 28-21. The Lady Lions opened up a 43-29 advantage at the end of three quarters.
Section (20-7) advances to face Ranburne at 6 p.m. on Thursday in the other Class 2A Northeast Regional semifinal. Collinsville's season ends at 20-8.
