A West Rome man was sentenced to 20 years in prison Friday morning for the ambush-style shooting of two people in the West Rome Walmart parking lot on Nov. 15, 2024.
David Marvin Davis pled guilty to numerous aggravated assault charges earlier this month in the shooting of Kelsey Beeman and Kylan Kendrell Jones who were sitting together in a car, and was sentenced by Floyd County Superior Court Chief Judge John “Jack†Niedrach.
“ItÐÔÊӽ紫ý really a miracle that this wasn’t a double murder,†Floyd County District Attorney Leigh Patterson said. “Both victims are very lucky to be alive.â€
According to Floyd County Assistant District Attorney Emily Johnson, Davis and Beeman were in a relationship and were experiencing trouble.
Davis tracked Beeman using her mobile phone and found her car, empty except for a phone, parked two rows away and waited for her to return.
When Beeman returned in a Mitsubishi Eclipse driven by Jones, Davis waited a few minutes before he pulled his car, a Cadillac CTS, up to their car, exited his vehicle and fired eight rounds from a 9 mm pistol into the Mitsubishi.
Beeman was struck in the hip area, and Jones was grazed across the shoulder.
Beeman then exited the Mitsubishi and ran to the rear to get cover, while Davis re-entered his Cadillac and tried to run Beeman over.
“She could easily have been crushed by the caddy,†Johnson said. “She got very lucky, as did the seven other witnesses who were right there.â€
According to Patterson, Niedrach said this was one of the worst aggravated assault cases that he had ever seen.
Davis fled the Walmart parking lot East toward Redmond Circle when he stopped at the intersection and exited his vehicle to relieve himself, which is when police apprehended him.
Davis was charged with six counts of aggravated assault, using a firearm during the commission of a felony, hit and run, reckless driving, reckless conduct and discharge of a firearm on the property of another.
During sentencing, Kelsey Beeman and her mother, Elaina Beeman, who is a Rome City Commissioner, told Niedrach that they forgave Davis but expected Davis would pay for his crimes.
Johnson read a statement in court from Elaina Beeman prior to sentencing.
“David Davis, you will never serve enough time for the hurt, harm, and attempt to murder our daughter Kelsey Beeman,†Johnson said. “Rickey and I made a promise to God that we will not continue to live with this nightmare that you have caused, so we are going to let go, and let God have his way.â€
