Weather forecasters are expecting high temperatures and humidity in North Georgia that feel like it's over 100 degrees this weekend and early next week.
The National Weather ServiceÐÔÊӽ紫ý office in Peachtree City reports that “dangerous heat†is in the forecast for Georgia through at least Tuesday.
The heat index, or what the temperature “feels like,†for the Atlanta area is forecast to be above 100 degrees for four consecutive days, from Saturday through Tuesday.
Monday's high is forecast to be around 96 degrees.
Tuesday is the hottest day in the forecast over the next few days, with a high in Cherokee near 98 degrees. Heat indexes in the Atlanta area Tuesday could be as high as 109 degrees.
On Friday, Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tyler Harper urged pet owners and livestock producers to protect their animals from the heat.
“With more extremely hot weather approaching our state, it is going to be critical to ensure our pets and livestock have plenty of shade and water over the next few days,†Harper said in a statement. “Extreme heat can be deadly for animals, and I strongly encourage all Georgians take steps to protect their pets and livestock this weekend and into next week.â€
The Georgia ÐÔÊӽ紫ý of Agriculture recommends providing ample shade, fresh water and minimizing outdoor activity for pets and livestock during the hottest parts of the day.
