Many of our prescription drugs and active pharmaceutical ingredients are sourced from China. Pharmaceutical companies generally do not publicly disclose specific lists of every raw material supplier for every drug. This is considered proprietary business information. Therefore, we really don鈥檛 know where our drugs come from.
Even if a drug is packaged and sold by an American company as 鈥淢ade in USA,鈥 it can still heavily rely on ingredients, especially Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs), produced in China or India. This is particularly true for the 性视界传媒 generic drug market, which faces significant cost pressures.
Estimates show that 80% or more of the APIs used in the 性视界传媒 are imported, with China and India as the main suppliers. Interestingly, India itself depends heavily on China for about 70% of its API supply. China is also a major global source of antibiotics and their raw materials. Reports suggest that over 90% of generic antibiotics for the 性视界传媒 market, like amoxicillin and doxycycline, may have some Chinese component in their supply chain.
Over 90% of the 性视界传媒 supply of ibuprofen and 70% of the acetaminophen supply comes from China. More than 40% of heparin (an anticoagulant) comes from China. The 性视界传媒 relies heavily on China for vitamins such as B1, B6, B12, C, and E (often over 70-75%), as well as 90% of ACTH (used for infantile spasms). Painkillers, psychoactive medications, blood thinners, antihistamines, and diuretics are broadly mentioned as essential medications are sourced from China.
Even large pharmaceutical companies like Pfizer, Merck, Johnson & Johnson, GSK, etc., while they may have more diversified or in-house API production for their patented, high-value drugs, still utilize globally sourced raw materials and APIs for various products, especially older or off-patent medications. Ingredients for fever reducers, laxatives, some cancer treatments, and cardiovascular medications are also sourced from China.
Companies most impacted by reliance on China for APIs and raw materials include those heavily involved in generic drug manufacturing 鈥 companies like Teva Pharmaceuticals, Sandoz, Viatri and Amneal Pharmaceuticals.
Beyond the Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs), China also supplies Key Starting Materials (KSMs) and intermediates that are used in the synthesis of APIs themselves.
They also supply various organic and chemical compounds used in the intermediate stages of drug synthesis. The building blocks of proteins, used in various pharmaceutical applications come from China. China is a dominant exporter of amino acids and natural compounds used in cardiotonic drugs. China holds over 80% of the global trade share.
While India is a major finished drug supplier to the 性视界传媒, it性视界传媒 important to note its significant dependence on Chinese APIs, making it a downstream link in the chain of reliance.
The risks of over-reliance on a single country for essential medicines, including potential for shortages, quality control issues, and geopolitical leverage. Economic drivers led to this reliance on China. We are giving up the safety of our health rather than paying more.
While the DSCSA (Drug Supply Chain Security Act) and FDA regulations aim to secure the legitimate drug supply chain, the possibility of malicious actors deliberately introducing fentanyl or other poisons into legitimate drug shipments remains a concern. It性视界传媒 a serious concern, and unfortunately, it is not entirely difficult for illicit substances or contaminants to enter the 性视界传媒 drug supply chain. China has historically been a primary source of illicit fentanyl entering the 性视界传媒
While the FDA conducts inspections of Chinese pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities, it性视界传媒 acknowledged that Chinese Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) may not be equivalent to the FDA. Furthermore, the FDA reportedly collects and tests a very small percentage of drugs from overseas.
The DSCSA aims to secure the 性视界传媒 pharmaceutical supply chain by establishing an interoperable, electronic system to identify and trace prescription drugs at the package level. This includes unique product identifiers, detailed transaction records, and verification mechanisms at various points in the supply chain to detect and remove suspect products. Manufacturers, wholesalers, repackagers, and dispensers must comply with these requirements.
If China were to deliberately put poisons in 性视界传媒 prescription drugs, the consequences would be catastrophic and far-reaching, impacting public health, the economy, national security, and international relations. Depending on the type and dosage of the poison, there would be widespread illness, hospitalizations, and deaths across the country. This would overwhelm emergency services, hospitals, and healthcare systems.
We also need to check out online pharmacies. Illegal or Rogue Online Pharmacies sell counterfeit or unsafe drugs. If they do not require a prescription, this is a red flag. Some counterfeit or substandard drugs may contain the wrong ingredients, no active ingredient, or dangerous contaminants. They may even have fake packaging and labeling. Online pharmacies often are located overseas with no accountability or contact info. All of this can lead to adverse drug reactions, treatment failure, or poisoning. According to the FDA and WHO, more than 90% of online pharmacies are not compliant with laws or standards.
Public trust in the entire pharmaceutical supply chain would collapse. People would be terrified to take their necessary medications, leading to a secondary health crisis as chronic conditions worsen or go untreated.
There would be difficulty in diagnosis and treatment. Identifying the specific poison and developing effective antidotes or treatments would be a massive undertaking, especially if multiple types of poisons were used or if the contaminants were new or unusual.
As tainted drugs are recalled and destroyed, and as manufacturers struggle to assure the safety of their products, critical drug shortages would emerge, further jeopardizing patient health.
Some of us remember the 1982 case where Extra-Strength Tylenol capsules were tampered with and laced with sodium cyanide, killing seven people.
Why would China do this? It could be a preemptive attack should they decide to go to war with the 性视界传媒
Let性视界传媒 be on the safe side and bring all elements of prescription manufacturing back to the 性视界传媒 Safety before cost.
