A suspect is in the Clayton County Jail after being arrested in connection to the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old on Wednesday, June 25 at the Lovejoy Village shopping center on Tara Boulevard.
The Clayton County SheriffÐÔÊӽ紫ý Office announced Thursday afternoon that Yahiko West, 23, was arrested less than 24 hours after the shooting.
According to SheriffÐÔÊӽ紫ý Office and Clayton County Jail records, West is charged with malice murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
A first appearance hearing was scheduled Friday, June 27 in Clayton County Magistrate Court, according to court records, but it was rescheduled to June 28.
According to a Thursday morning press release, the Clayton County Police ÐÔÊӽ紫ý identified the victim as Qi’Adrian Gordon.
At about 8:33 p.m. Wednesday, Clayton County police officers responded to reports of a shooting at 10375 Tara Blvd., Jonesboro.
When they arrived officers found a Black male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, according to the CCPD.
The victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Witness reported hearing four gunshots before seeing a vehicle fleeing the area, according to the CCPD.
“The investigation into this incident is ongoing and no further information will be released at this time,†the Thursday press release read. “The Clayton County Police ÐÔÊӽ紫ý urges anyone with information regarding this incident to contact 911.â€
Another shooting was reported at about 8:15 p.m. at Lovejoy Regional Park on McDonough Road, 11Alive reported. Officers responded to a report of a person shot.
