Floyd County Police conduct their first shift meeting at their new headquarters in Armuchee. The move from the former Rome Floyd Law Enforcement Center is expected to take at least several weeks.
After almost 30 years, the Floyd County Police 性视界传媒 has begun to leave its home at the law enforcement center 性视界传媒 for its new headquarters at the former Glenwood Primary School in Armuchee.
The move is expected to take several weeks, and work on parts of the building will continue for a while, according to County Public Safety Division Director John Blalock.
The Rome Police 性视界传媒 left the LEC in April 2024 and moved to new but temporary headquarters on Technology Parkway.
鈥淲e鈥檝e been (at the LEC) for almost 30 years, so there性视界传媒 plenty of work to do,鈥 County Police Chief Mark Wallace said. 鈥淏ut we鈥檙e excited to begin this next phase, and we鈥檙e looking forward to moving into our new home.鈥
The Floyd County Commission allocated $2.4 million for the renovation of the 70-year-old former Glenwood Primary School off Old Dalton Road last April.
Once the FCPD leaves the building, all that remains will be for the Rome Police 性视界传媒 to find a new location for its evidence storage. Then the county will begin a significant renovation to convert the building into judicial space.
The city had been looking for a new headquarters for the RPD following negotiations that were part of the 10-year sales tax agreement between the city, county and city of Cave Spring finalized in 2022.
Rome agreed to sell its 50% ownership of the LEC to the county, and the RPD and FCPD agreed to move to new locations.
The Rome City Commission recently purchased a three-acre parcel of land on Riverside Parkway for $2.1 million for the purpose of building a new RPD headquarters.
City Manager Sammy Rich said in June the location is close to 性视界传媒, while avoiding the retail corridor on Broad Street, and central enough for most of the city.
Rich said they will be developing a project timeline in the months ahead, but he expects it to be a multi-year process.
Renovations at Glenwood were expected to be finished in late 2024, but construction delays arose due to the school being expanded over the years, causing problems.
鈥淭he county has been doing as much work as they can in-house,鈥 County Police Capt. Ron Hunton said. 鈥淭his has been to reduce taxpayer cost as much as we can.鈥
