SAND ROCK - Luke Goss netted 14 points and Will Hawkins added 13 to lead the Centre Middle School boys to a 44-31 victory over Cedar Bluff to claim the Cherokee County Boys' 8th Grade Basketball Tournament Championship on Saturday at Sand Rock.
Ivory Moore contributed 10 points for the Warriors. Julian Latty finished with seven points.
Ivory Starr and Darrion Marshall led Cedar Bluff with 13 points apiece.
Centre Middle School built a 26-19 halftime advantage. The Warriors led 39-23 heading into the fourth quarter.
Centre Middle reached the championship game after defeating Sand Rock 51-26 in the tournament semifinals. In that game, Chance Latty and Kvon Stubbs both scored eight points to lead the Warriors. Six of Chance Latty's points came on a pair of treys. Ian Edwards added six points on two 3-pointers. Blake Dobbs and Zach McGatha both finished with five points.
Tanner Clanton led Sand Rock with 10 points, including a pair of 3-pointers. Noah Hester had nine points, all on 3-pointers. Dylan Gowens finished with five points.
In its semifinal game, Cedar Bluff defeated Spring Garden 39-26. Marshall topped the Tigers with 10 points. Nick Sawyer added eight points and Luke Hampton contributed six points.
Stephen Smith led Spring Garden with 12 points. Dalton Rogers and Luke Ivey both finished with five points.
Junior High Girls Championship
Centre Middle School 33, Sand Rock 20
SAND ROCK - Haley Woods connected on three 3-pointers and scored 14 points in leading the Centre Middle School girls to a 33-20 victory over Sand Rock to earn the Cherokee County Junior High Girls' Basketball Tournament Championship on Saturday at Sand Rock.
Laney Kate Johnson and Crimson Mahanna both contributed five points for Centre Middle. Claudia Graves finished with four points.
Kirby DeBoard led Sand Rock with 10 points. August Gilliland finished with five points.
Centre Middle led by only four points at 9-5 at the end of the first quarter before going on a 12-4 run to take a 21-9 advantage at halftime. Centre Middle built a 28-17 lead at the end of the third quarter.
Centre Middle reached the championship game by defeating Spring Garden 23-13 in the tournament semifinals. Mahanna led the Lady Warriors with nine points. Johnson added five points and Haley Dickens finished with four points.
Macy Reedy led Spring Garden with five points. Deanna Lambert finished with four points.
In the tournament's opening game, Spring Garden outlasted Cedar Bluff in overtime 29-27. Chole Jarrett led the Lady Panthers with 12 points. Lambert contributed 11 points.
Alexis Smith posted a game-high 20 points for Cedar Bluff. Kyla O'Neil finished with six points.
Sand Rock reached the championship game with a 37-25 victory over Gaylesville. In that game, Brylie St. Clair led the Lady Wildcats with 15 points. Gilliland contributed seven points. Samantha Silva and DeBoard had six and five points respectively.
Adrianna Valencia led the Lady Trojans with 14 points. Savannah Coker finished with nine points.
7th Grade Boys Championship
Sand Rock 44, Centre Middle School 29
SAND ROCK - Sand Rock went on a 7-0 run in the first quarter and built a 20-5 halftime advantage en route to a 44-29 victory over Centre Middle School in the the Cherokee County 7th Grade Boys Championship on Saturday at Sand Rock.
Eli Bates led the Wildcats with 15 points. Banks Alexander contributed 10 points. Brady Jackson delivered seven points and Ethan Clanton finished with five points.
Jordan Kennon led the Warriors with six points. Jayleon Henderson and Colby Slayton both contributed five points.
7th Grade Girls Championship
Sand Rock 23, Centre Middle School 22 (OT)
SAND ROCK - Sand Rock's Kynleigh Chesnut sank one of two of free throws with 1.3 seconds left in regulation to force overtime, then hit three of four shots from the charity stripe in the final minute of overtime, lifting the Lady Wildcats to a 23-22 victory over Centre Middle School to capture the Cherokee County 7th Grade Girls Championship on Saturday.
Chesnut led the Lady Wildcats with 12 points. Victoria Collum added five points and Madison Goodwin finished with four points.
Aubrie Williams led the Lady Warriors with 12 points. Kayleigh Hunter finished with six points.
Williams had a rebound and putback with five seconds to go in regulation to put the Lady Warriors up 20-19, but then Chesnut was fouled, sending her to the line for two shots. She missed the first but canned the second to force overtime.
