A Shannon couple was arrested Wednesday after their dog, a white and brown chihuahua mix, was tethered in their backyard and got tangled in a brush pile and died from exposure, reports state.
According to Floyd County Jail reports:
Mikey Daniel Dowdy, 32, and Tanya Louise Dowdy, 33, are charged with felony aggravated cruelty to animals.
Floyd County ordinances prohibit unattended tethering of all domestic animals, under any condition, but allow limited tethering if the animal is attended.
They both remained in jail on $5,000 bond as of Thursday.
West Rome teen charged with possession of marijuana, pistol
A West Rome teenager was found in possession of a pistol and marijuana after running from police Wednesday afternoon on Maple Avenue at 17th Street in East Rome, reports state.
According to Floyd County Jail reports:
Christopher Eugene Akins Jr., 17, is charged with felony possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime as well as misdemeanor possession of a firearm by a minor, possession of marijuana and obstruction for running from police.
He remained in jail on $2,600 bond as of Thursday.
East Rome woman charged with DUI, possession of pills
An East Rome woman was arrested on Dugger Drive in Armuchee when police noticed she was covered with an alcoholic beverage, with a Smirnoff Ice in her cupholder, after a traffic stop for not wearing a seatbelt early Thursday afternoon, reports state.
According to Floyd County Jail reports:
Pamela Gail Pruiett, 61, is charged with felony possession of Xanax and other assorted pills without a prescription as well as misdemeanor possession of an open container and driving with a suspended license.
She remained in jail on $5,700 bond as of Thursday.
West Rome woman charged with hitting vehicle with a machete
A West Rome woman was arrested on Armuchee High School property Wednesday night when she chopped the rear view mirror off a Floyd County Schools vehicle that was parked there overnight, reports state.
According to Floyd County Jail reports:
Shelby Savanah Bailey, 27, is charged with felony interference with government property.
There were no employees or students on the property at the time, according to FCS officials. She remained in jail on $3,500 bond as of Thursday.
