CEDAR BLUFF – Kallie Kilgro doubled in the second inning and singled in the sixth to drive in two runs in leading the Cedar Bluff Lady Tigers to a 7-2 victory over Gaylesville in the Cherokee County Softball Tournament on Wednesday.
Cedar Bluff (4-3) jumped out on the Lady Trojans quickly by scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Lady Tigers added two more in the second and one more in the fourth to take a 7-0 lead.
Gaylesville (0-9) scored single runs in the fifth and the seventh for the final.
Destinie Grace went 2-for-4 with a run for the Lady Tigers. Mikenzie Gossett, Claire Bryant and Paige Bryant all contributed a hit and scored a run. One of Paige BryantÐÔÊӽ紫ý hits was a double. Gossett also drew a walk.
Julie Farist added a double. Abby Storey and Mackenzie Brock scored a run apiece.
Aubie Dodd picked up the win in the circle. She went the distance, giving up two runs on six hits with a walk and nine strikeouts.
Angie Calvert led the Lady Trojans at the plate by going 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Adrianna Valencia was 2-for-3.
Cedar Bluff advances to face Sand Rock on Friday at 4 p.m. Gaylesville drops to the losers bracket to take on Cherokee County on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
Spring Garden 14, Cherokee County 4 (5 innings)
CEDAR BLUFF – After being down two runs early, Spring Garden exploded for 10 runs in the third inning, leading to a 14-4 Cherokee County Softball Tournament victory over Cherokee County in five innings on Wednesday.
Kerstin Bryant went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with a double, two runs and four RBIs. She also earned the win in the circle for the Lady Panthers (3-3), giving up two earned runs on four hits with a walk and two strikeouts.
Payton McGinnis also had a big night at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double, a stolen base, three runs and two RBIs. Madison Sides, Payton Traffanstedt and Hayley Williams were all 2-for-3. Sides scored runs and drove in another. Traffanstedt also had three RBIs and scored a run. Williams scored two runs. Jessica Smart doubled and also scored twice. Kalista Free added a double.
Jensen Alexander suffered the loss for Cherokee County (0-7). She also doubled, drove in a run and scored another.
Spring Garden advances to face the Sand Rock-Cedar Bluff winner on Friday at 7 p.m. Cherokee County drops to the losers bracket to meet Gaylesville on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
