HIGDON – North Sand Mountain senior quarterback Christopher George connected with Jordan Harmon on a 36-yard touchdown pass with 6:03 left in game, providing the difference in the BisonÐÔÊӽ紫ý 21-14 win over Sand Rock in Class 3A, Region 7 football action on Friday.
The Wildcats (2-1, 1-1) held a 14-6 halftime advantage before the Bison (2-1, 2-0) stormed back in the second half.
Sand Rock senior running back Jared Blackwell put the Wildcats in front with 4:56 left in the first quarter on his 14-yard touchdown run. Josh SarrattÐÔÊӽ紫ý extra point made it 7-0 Sand Rock.
North Sand Mountain countered with 8:50 left in the first half on junior quarterback Hunter HillÐÔÊӽ紫ý 29-yard touchdown pass to Harmon. George missed the extra point, keeping Sand Rock in front at 7-6.
Wildcat senior quarterback Caleb Kasinger increased Sand RockÐÔÊӽ紫ý lead with his 23-yard touchdown connection with senior receiver Joel Brock at the 3:57 mark of the second quarter. Sarratt booted the point after to give the Wildcats a 14-6 lead at halftime.
The Bison tied the game at 14 with 6:09 left in the third quarter on GeorgeÐÔÊӽ紫ý 2-yard touchdown run. Hill hit Harmon for the 2-point conversion pass to knot the score, setting the stage for HarmonÐÔÊӽ紫ý game winning touchdown catch from George in the fourth quarter.
Harmon led all receivers with five catches for 76 yards and two touchdowns. Brock led the Wildcats with five catches for 59 yards and a touchdown.
Hill completed 15-of-24 pass attempts for 139 yards and a touchdown, but he was also picked off twice. George was 3-of-6 for 40 yards, a touchdown and an interception. He was also the BisonÐÔÊӽ紫ý leading rusher with 31 yards on 12 carries and a touchdown.
Kasinger connected on 10-of-18 attempts for 94 yards and a score for the Wildcats.
Senior Alex McMahan led the Wildcat defense with 10 ½ tackles, including eight solo efforts and 1 ½ tackles for lost yardage. Sophomore Jansen Alexander picked off a pair of passes. Brock also had an interception.
Sand Rock looks to rebound on Friday when it hosts Plainview. North Sand Mountain travels to Sylvania.
