The Cedar Bluff junior high volleyball team won the Cherokee County Junior High Tournament at Sand Rock on Tuesday. The junior Lady Tigers beat Centre Middle School 25-22, 25-16 in the semifinals, then rallied to defeat Sand Rock in the finals 13-25, 26-24, 15-5.
The Cedar Bluff junior high team is comprised of Montana Mize, Lexy Lee, Matison Bedwell, Haley Chandler, Julianne Wilson, Kyla O’Neal, Jayla McElrath, Kristen Stephens, Peyton Isbell, Colbi Whitlock, Brooklyn Abernathy and Misty Lowe. The coach is Dusty Cothran.
Meanwhile, the varsity team split a pair of matches at Hokes Bluff in a tri-match with Gadsden City. The Lady Tigers defeated Gadsden City 25-12, 25-13, but fell in the nightcap 22-25, 16-25.
In the win over Gadsden City, Jasmine Adams led the way with 11 kills and eight digs. Abby Storey added seven kills, five digs, five assists and an ace. Laura Anne Hughes had 15 assists, seven digs and two kills. Paige Bryant finished with eight digs and a pair of aces.
Against Hokes Bluff, Storey posted six digs and three kills. Clair Bryant contributed seven digs and two kills. Paige Bryant posted 10 digs. Hughes came away with 10 assists and six digs. Lexi Moten finished with four digs and an ace.
Cedar Bluff (11-24) hosts Cherokee County and Donoho on Thursday beginning at 4 p.m.
