The year was 1947 and a new church building, Everett Springs Baptist, was dedicated in Armuchee. This structure was made of rock. That ensured that this one, unlike the original wood frame building, built in the 1880s, would not burn down.
On the evening of Sunday, June 29, that rock building was rocking again, but this time with old-time gospel music. The songs were from the Red Book, also known as the Church Hymnal, a 1951 copyright that was and is a standard for this genre.
Songs like “I’m Winging My Way Back ÐÔÊӽ紫ý,†“Just A Little Talk with Jesus,†and “Victory in Jesus,†along with many others, filled the building with thrilling four-part harmony accompanied by piano, upright bass and drums. More than 140 folks from all around Northwest Georgia filled the sanctuary that seats around 100.
The Bob Davis Quartet did some heart blessing with “Jesus Will Outshine Them All†and “Sheltered in the Arms of God.â€
What a sound, what musical praise to God and what uplifting of spirits.
Every fifth Sunday in a month, three churches combine for the “singing.†Mt. Tabor Methodist and West Union Baptist join Everett Springs Baptist, with a fellowship meal to follow.
