A handful of GOP lawmakers are pressing for government cuts to be implemented — and , R-Rome, is leading the charge.
In a post on X, Greene urged Congress on Wednesday to tech billionaire Elon Muskӽ紫ý cuts through his ӽ紫ý of Government Efficiency (DOGE) — which has reduced the size of the federal workforce and slashed regulations — or they would never happen again.
She went on to ask, “And who would vote for Republicans after that?”
Greene is one of many Republicans in both chambers who have pressed Congress to codify DOGE cuts, as the nongovernmental agency is . Stephen Miller, Trumpӽ紫ý deputy chief of staff for policy, said in a on Tuesday that since DOGE cuts are categorized as “discretionary spending,” they would instead need to be enacted through a rescissions package or an appropriations bill, allowing agencies to have budget authority.
Greene, , said she was told that Congress would see the first DOGE cuts bill next Monday, but did not specify the type of version. She wrote that the country “cannot survive” the national debt, which sits at , and it “may be past the point of return.”
“I want to pass DOGE cuts every single week until the bloated out of control government is reigned back in,” she wrote. “... Our future literally is in peril.”
Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., who was by Trump for opposing the budget bill, joined Greeneӽ紫ý calls for cuts on Wednesday, but noted that he’ll “believe it when I see it.”
“People need to keep the pressure on (House Speaker Mike Johnson) and the White House to bring the DOGE cuts for a vote,” .
Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida on Tuesday had also for casting aside spending reductions, calling it “demoralizing” and a “betrayal of the voters who elected them.”
And Elon Musk, in an interview with , said the GOP spending bill of DOGE.
“I think a bill can be big or it can be beautiful, but I don’t know if it can be both. My personal opinion,” Musk said in an interview that will air on Sunday.
