Gov. Brian Kemp appointed Kennesaw State University history professor Catherine Lewis to serve on the State Board of Certification of Librarians.
Lewis also is vice provost of museums, archives and rare books at KSUÐÔÊӽ紫ý University Libraries. She manages a multimillion-dollar budget and leads a staff of nearly 100 professionals.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and history from Emory University as well as a Master of Arts and Ph.D. in American studies from the University of Iowa.
Lewis also has curated more than 40 exhibits for institutions across the country, including the Atlanta History Center, the Brennan Museum, Delta Airlines, Augusta National Golf Club, and United Way. She has co-authored and co-edited over 15 books, regularly presents at national and international conferences, and has helped secure major grants for Kennesaw State from organizations such as the ÐÔÊӽ紫ý State ÐÔÊӽ紫ý, the American Association of Museums, and the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
The six-member board was created in 1937 to ensure that librarians who work for any public library serving a population of 5,000 or more, and every library operated by the state or its authority, meet certain minimum education qualifications.
